The Students' Association of Ethnic Hungarians in Vojvodina keeps to its tradition and this year it will organize its 'Help Me' program as well. It will be held between 23-25 June. These are the days when the young people who wish to apply to the to the faculties of the University of Novi Sad will have to hand in their papers. The activists will wear green T-shirts.
21 June 2010 [22:35] Senta: huge problems because of the rain
In the early afternoon hours of Monday Senta experienced torrential rain fall. The water level quickly rose and in many streets, for example in the Nis Streets the cellars were filled with water. The firemen received calls from Gornji Breg as well. Stables and greenhouses were filled with water besides the houses.
Aniko Sirova, the mayor of Senta promised quick help to those in need.
18 June 2010 [20:44] The Ombudsmen thanked the effort of the police and local powers for their participation in the Jabuka situation
Saša Janković, republican ombudsman and Dejan Janča, provincial ombudsman met on Friday and they both agreed that very little had been done in the past about discrimination and violence against the Roma population in Serbia. This topic is really actual in these days after the incidents in Jabuka town, where a whole Roma community was threatened and punished for an individual criminal prosecution. The Ombudsmen thanked the effort of the police and the local power, but they also stated that these effort were not enough and serious changes have to made in the future.
18 June 2010 [20:44] The VMSZ submitted eight proposals to the Ministry of Education
According to the Pannon RTV news on Friday the Alliance of Ethnic Hungarians in Vojvodina submitted eight proposals to the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry accepted most of the proposals which was developed by both of the newly formed National Council and the VMSZ.
One of the proposals asks right for the National Council to comment on appointment of Deans. While another proposal asks for the right that the minority students can carry out and writ their thesis papers in their mother language.
17 June 2010 [18:06] The water level of the Danube River stagnates at Novi Sad
According to the authorities the special flood protection orders are still alive in Novi Sad, because the water level of the Danube River is still extremely high.
As they said the water level stagnates, although a slight decrease was measured overnight the major shrink can be expected over the weekend.
17 June 2010 [18:06] Goran Bašić and Eva Vukašinović consult about the actions in Jabuka
On a Wednesday meeting Goran Bašić, republican Ombudsman's deputy, and Eva Vukašinović provincial Ombudsman's deputy, agreed that the actions against the Roma population in Jabuka is intolerable. They also agreed that it is too harsh to accuse the whole community with collective guilt and punish the according to the accuses.
The local Serb community must admit that it is the authorities’ task to act in this case. The local Serb community on Wednesday expressed its dissatisfaction with the work of the director of public prosecutions in Pancova because they failed to act, and in addition to this it ordered the imprisonment of the disobeyer Serb inhabitants who attacked the local Romas.
16 June 2010 [21:19] Commemoration ceremony at the Subotica Holocaust Memorial
On Wednesday morning, there was a commemorational ceremony in the courtyard of the Subotica Synagogue at the Holocaust Memorial.
During the commemorative speeches given by the representatives of the historic churches it was emphasized that the Synagogue is a symbol of Subotica as a multinational and multi-religious city.
In 1944th on the 7th of June 544 men was interned to labor service and into ghettos. From Vojvodina approximately 3500 Jews were transported to German labor and death camps.
16 June 2010 [21:18] Bábity János and Dr. Félegyházi Péter visited the editorial of Vajdaság Ma
On Wednesday Bábity János new Hungarian Consul in Subotica and Dr. Félegyházi Péter former Consul visited the editorials of ethnic Hungarian medias in Novi Sad.
This visit was a farewell visit for the old Consul and an introductory visit for the new Consul. They also visited the editorial of Vajdaság Ma.
During the visit Sebestyén Imre, the chief editor of the Vajdaság Ma introduced the online portal and its’ functions.
15 June 2010 [22:56] Harassment and intimidation against the local Roma community in Jabuka
In the small town called Jabuka next to Pancova the local Serb inhabitants have been harassing and intimidating the local Roma community. Their action is explicitly racist natured.
Several hundred Serb people gather each evening forming an anti-Roma group. They are threatening the gypsies and throwing stones to their house.
The Serbs protests because a few days ago a 17 year old local Serb youth has been killed by some local Roma who was also a 17 year old.
The local police started an investigation on Tuesday because they feel that the protest become a national and racial hatred act. In front of the Gypsies’s houses police are guarding, and protecting them.
15 June 2010 [22:56] The Szeged and Subotica bicycle path was inaugurated
During the weekend was the inauguration of the Szeged and Subotica bicycle path. The 75km long path is crossing the Tiszasziget- Dala national border, than at Martonos the cyclists can take a motorboat to be shipped toKanjiza, From Kanjiza the hikers can continue their trip through Kishomok and Kispiac.
On the way, the hikers can see the Captain- meadows, the Ludas- Lake and the Palic Lake. Along the route information table are allocated.
The project was developed and carried out by two non-governmental organization, the Geo-Environ from Szeged and the Leso Hikers Association from Kanjiza.
