Increased traffic inspection

During the May holidays the Serbian traffic police will conduct an increased road inspection. The police will use moving radars and helicopters to track down those who are speeding. According to the statistics during the May Day celebrations more traffic accidents happen than during any other festive occasions. The experts say that it is due to the nice weather conditions people tend to drive faster, and in addition to this most drivers also consume alcoholic beverages on their picnics which may lead to tragic outcomes.
The traffic police has announced that during the holidays they will inspect all the regional roads and highways. Slaviša Matić, spokesperson of the Serbian Interior Ministry's traffic police department, asked all drivers not to consume alcohol when they planning to drive, and emphasized that the police will take their job seriously. Since the beginning of the year 50 percent fewer people died in road crashes in Serbia than in the same period last year Serbia. (021)
