Jozsef Kasza died on Wednesday. The fromer head of the VMSZ, Hungarian politician from Vojvodina deceased early in the morning today - informed the MTI Csongor Kasza, the politician's son.
Kasza has had problems with his health recently. He died in the hospital in Subotica.
Apart from being a poltician, he was also an economist and banker.
He was the deputy prime minister of Serbia in the Governments of Zoran Đinđić and Zoran Živković and the head of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians political party. Kasza was an honorary president of this party until the title was revoked and he expelled from the VMSZ because of various disagreements on party issues.
Kasza was also a mayor of Subotica from 1989 till 2001.
He was an advocate of dual citizenship for Hungarians in Vojvodina, and criticized the World Association of Hungarians for posing the question on a referendum.
Kasza had spent two and a half months in custody being accused of misappropriation.
Jozsef Kasza was also head of the board of directors of the Nepszinhaz in Subotica and director of the Suboticke Novine daily newspaper.
